The Miracle Maker
The story of Jayshree

The story of Jayshree
One of the first girls to receive financial support.
For Jayshree, proud mother of 4 daughters, the most important change in her life since the start of Tiny Miracles is that she is now able to create a future of possibilities for her children. With 3 of them going to school and one even going to college where she studies commerce. “I only reached high school, 10th grade.. then I dropped out. The same applies to my husband. Now I have 4 daughters going to school, and I cannot complain: they all get good grades!”

The story of Jayshree
One of the first girls to receive financial support.
Although her daughters’ education is the most important thing to Jayshree, she points out that she, and especially her daughters, got empowered in so many other ways ever since Tiny Miracles started. She herself was being forced into getting married: “When my husband proposed, I did not agree. But my father decided I had to get married, and so I did.”
Inspired by the social awareness sessions, she is determined to make sure that her daughters will have a different experience: “I first want my daughters to feel free to work on their careers, to develop themselves, before getting married. And off course they should decide themselves to whom they want to get married”.
Dreams become reality
Another big change in Jayshree’s life came with the help of the Income Generation Project. From the very beginning, Jayshree was involved in the IGP program, working on every product that Tiny Miracles has ever made. Her salary rose from somewhere between 100-400 INR before Tiny Miracles, when she was a housewife and only held occasional small jobs, to 10.000-20.000 INR per month now, depending on the amount of orders. This income is much needed, as Jayshree’s normal household consists of 8 people, but with family coming in and out often reaches up to 24 mouths to feed.
Even though Jayshree is very satisfied with the direction that her life, and mostly the lives of her children has taken, she also holds dreams for the future that are slowly turning into actual plans: “First of all I want to save money for a real house, where we can stay with the whole family. And then, as I never got out of town for more than 3 days, I want to relax on a long holiday!” Recently she used her savings to buy a room outside of Mumbai to sublet and earn an extra income, a very important step towards achieving her dream of buying a house for the family!
