It all started

Laurien asked her then-employer, ABN AMRO, to give her a posting in Mumbai. She always felt drawn to the culture. Whilst doing volunteer work on the weekends, she befriended Kiran, a young homeless boy with a substance abuse problem.

She taught him how  to  brush his teeth and play backgammon. He taught her about the simplicity of happiness and joy. Until one fine day, he overdosed behind a train station. His friends told Laurien who then started an hours-long frantic search to locate him.

Sadly, she never saw him again.
